I know a double lyrics post is huge snafu but I'm leaving for North Carolina in about 20 seconds and I do not have time to gripe over word choice, instead I'll let Josh Ritter do that. This song is amazing by the way:

All of a sudden now you're back again -
I thought you were happy with whoever?
or did you dream about me now and then?
Did you look up at the stars and feel something for the constellations?
All those lovers round their, swings and arrows,
dogs and lions separating touch from touch,
the comedy of distance, the tragedy of separation.

Am I making all the right moves?
Am I singing you the right blues?
Is there a time when I can call you, just to see how you are doing?

I said how is it that you come back to me? You don't need the stories of my scars or in the stars to tell you nothings free. I traded all the innocence I ever had for hesitation. I said won't you tell me where you've been? You put a finger to my lips and then you kiss me once and once again. The crickets all lept up and met the moon with a standing ovation.

Am I making all the right moves?
Am I singing you the right blues?
Is there a time when I can call you, just to see how you are doing?

I heard the night was picking up this song, you threw your hair back and you sang along. And I realised...

Because its a great song and you should like it

Leonard Cohen - First We Take Manhattan Lyrics

They sentenced me to twenty years of boredom
For trying to change the system from within
I'm coming now, I'm coming to reward them
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin
I'm guided by a signal in the heavens
I'm guided by this birthmark on my skin
I'm guided by the beauty of our weapons
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'd really like to live beside you, baby
I love your body and your spirit and your clothes
But you see that line there moving through the station?
I told you, I told you, told you, I was one of those

Ah you loved me as a loser, but now you're worried that I just might win
You know the way to stop me, but you don't have the discipline
How many nights I prayed for this, to let my work begin
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I don't like your fashion business mister
And I don't like these drugs that keep you thin
I don't like what happened to my sister
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I'd really like to live beside you, baby ...

And I thank you for those items that you sent me
The monkey and the plywood violin
I practiced every night, now I'm ready
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I am guided

Ah remember me, I used to live for music
Remember me, I brought your groceries in
Well it's Father's Day and everybody's wounded
First we take Manhattan, then we take Berlin

I went to...only if its on the second...yeah but fred has it already

Growing up sucks. I fake a good adult but I just can't get there. I remember walking down the hall in third grade and reading a sign that said something like "to give is better than to receive" or however you'd word that for a 9 year old and I thought "fuck that." A teacher told us we'd understand that better when we were older. And I did, I hate getting gifts. Its a lot of work and no one ever gets you what you really want or find amusing unless they are a really close. Lets drop the perfunctory and get me drunk on your tab. I never got the adult aspect of relationships though. I'm still a selfish "why not" type who never really gets over his losses.

Oh, speaking of that. Check out what landed in my HonestyBox on facebook. if you don't know what either of those are just keep reading:

"You're a selfish scumbag who falls in and out of love way too easily."

First part: yes
Second part: yes
Third part: I wish.

I still wonder what Helene is doing with herself once a weak and I haven't seen her in seven years, nor was our relationship significant at all. If I actually loved you, chances are I probably never stopped. Thats what i hate about me most. I never get over that shit. It sits in my, more quietly as time moves on, but it never leaves. Maybe at the ten year mark but so far im stuck with these memories that only...I don't know, haunt? But they aren't unwelcome, they just don't help anything.

Moving along, I realize I am a tad hyperbolic at times but I have found the greatest thing EVER! They are these little applesauce-sized peanut butter containers that have the vacuum seal tops. When I saw this shit in the stores I lost my fucking mind. I mean, how many times have you sat at your kitchen table alone at 3 am eating crackers and peanut butter alone under a naked lightbulb? Countless right? I know. So I see this and I'm like "problem solved. No more butter knives or half crackers left in the jar for someone elses unfortunate suprise. No longer will Toasted's crumbs end up in my fucking jelly jar or will I grab at paper towels awkwardly because random regions of my hand are covered in peanut butter. We've climbed the mighty mountain my brothers, and it has felt good."

3 vats in and I'm happy to say that I'm the most protein fueled boy on the block. And I bought wheat crackers to dip so I might as well just get my fucking SI cover now. Take it easy ladies, theres plenty to go around.

Heartbreak and Insurrection

Today I was told that I could have a pretty sucky job with benefits if I would only come in monday clean-shaven. I told them no. I don't know what im more pissed about. Them thinking I'd take that job, that im working for a company that feels this is the best way to do business, or that this might derail my progress in a company.

Whatever. Im just pissy because Ryan Adams Oh My Sweet Carolina is breaking my fucking heart.

Life in a Calendar

The twilight showed up an hour and a half early with screeching wheels, a handle of vodka, and a loose necktie. I stood on a bridge over the Charles, and a speed boat ripped through our coveted "dirty water." I'd always wanted to stand on one of the several bridges that connect Cambridge and Boston but I'd always lived to far away and I always got weighed down by the nothing that I had to do.

I felt like somehow this was it. Boston had been a home and a brother to me since I'd moved there and this was the confession at the alter that I'd had become a man and had to move on. The Harvard church bell tower in its puritan white spoke to me from over the trees, and I knew that while I might be leaving that image was something that was natural to me and that regardless of where they buried me I'd probably be a "wild colonial boy" of New England for the rest of my life.

Everyone moved off, and they turned in their phones, and the roads here stopped smoldering since we've stopped running them ragged at 2 am full of rum and bad folk songs. yesterday the cameras pulled back and played a slow sad song and took in all that had happened in 3 short weeks. The familiar sounds of silence on quite bridges at 3 am when you've been blown off by all the terrible plans you'd never be caught dead doing seems too familiar to stick with. You run out of things to write about and you're forced to realize that what you wanted was just defenses against you're own insecurities.

I don't want to get married. Its too hot to sleep next to someone in the summer and besides, I throw elbows in the middle of the night and I like getting lost in blankets. No one likes interesting things and I don't have time to pretend to like your shit, or find out why you're interesting. I don't have time after the break up to explain why you're not as hot as you think you are.

Or what kind of mistake you've made. Do you know who I am? I picked up a girl with a cheeseburger, and had a lesbian ask me for sex. I play piano with proficiency and speak 1.5 languages. I have perfect diction and write theories on the ways to improve the two great parties of America. I've finished 5 triathlons, 18 road trips and 1 half marathon. I've helped children taken from their families make honor role and find out why science is fun. I buy paul newmans salsa because all proceeds go to charity, and know who Shinzo Abe is. I wrote a play that was featured in a theater festival that used the term "whale sperm" on three occasions, and the audience laughed throughout. i've been a friend through the worst times and an enemy when no one else will say it. I sleep off every grudge I've had since I hit 21 and I may often be tardy but I'm always there when you need me, regardless of time zone.

My name is [Brow]. You killed my father, prepare to die.

Second star to the right...

When I was in third grade they made us write to a celebrity we liked just so we could learn how to format a letter properly. Back then, every year for my birthday we'd go to the movies cause we didn't do that often and I guess that meant it was special. That year I wanted to see Hook and so when it came time to write my letter, I wrote to Robin Williams. I thought he was the funniest man ever and I couldn't possibly conceive of a better, more deserving person to write to.

The class couldn't remember which publishing company Hook was made by and so we guessed. When I got no response back, we just assumed it was the wrong publisher. In reality (at 24) I realize that a publishing company has as much to with an actor as a university does with a guest speaker. Whatever, not the point. Anyways...

I still remember a line from that movie where Rufio has to determine whether or not the aged Robin Williams is in fact the Pan they remember. I'm paraphrasing but he says something like "you still have the smell of someone whose ridden on the back of the wind." Its a throwaway line applicable and germane to only the movie itself but I'm going to reference it here.

Since moving to the peoples republic I ride my bike at least twice a day, and every time I do I can't help but think of that line. I have an unhealthy obsession with the ocean and sailing and I feel as Jimmy Buffet does, that I'm a pirate that "showed up 200 years too late." But riding my bike through the back roads and main drags of late night Somerville/Cambridge is the closest I'll get to that, and I have to imagine its not much different.

Given everything thats been going on, on top of all of this there is something I'm going to have to go get checked out. I think theres something wrong with my Kidney and whatever is going on there, its effecting my heart in some fashion. I can't breathe without shooting pains rocketing back and forth between the two places. Prior to the downfall, I'd have probably told my parents. Instead I decided to just start riding without my helmet, and I have to say that so long as they don't try to save me and leave me a vegetable or worse (worse being better and so therefor brain damaged) I don't think I could be happier. Tonight I just coasted around, drunk on long island ice teas and I sang to myself and other cyclists and I bought some mama Celeste pizzas. I don't care anymore and if caring means I have to give all this up to stress out more well then I hope I die a hobo.

I've been blowing quite a few people off lately, and they get mad but I don't have it in me to explain that they live depressing lives that I refuse to be a part of. So I just go off and do my own thing. Keep up if you want, but I won't force you. The trips are still on and the plans to move are gaining more popularity. According to plan, Ill be in Chicago, Austin, Omaha, Seattle and Frisco by this time next year.

I never wanted to leave anyone behind. I still feel bad about it and at times a little guilty, but I can't drag them along for the rest of my life, it only stunts me, so I'm leaving a few of them behind. I smell like the wind, and I'm going to keep it that way.

"And the wind in my face And it's good just to be alive Gonna set out tonight for New Orleans"
